Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

eTwinning is an effective way to make links with likeminded teachers across Europe. It’s free and safe. It encourages the sharing of ideas and initiatives and is jolly good fun.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

ICT supports and enriches just about all of the International links we have at St Thomas. Children are interested in using ICT and have a natural fascination to find out about other people and to communicate with them.

Specialist areas:

We proudly hold an International School Award and partnerships are a feature of our school’s success. We are constantly looking for new ways to forge friendships with schools near and far; ICT is a fundamental part of these links.

Registering opens up a whole new world of contacts with realms of experiences to share and support to give.It also allows one to show case work done by the students across Europe.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

It has allowed students who can not afford to experience the international dimension first hand to do so over the web. It has opened the global dimension to the whole school nit just the more affluent section who could travel with their parents or on a school organised visit.

Specialist areas:

My expertise is not really on line work but we have used it for ISA applications but have a large input into implementation of Curriculum for Excellence across a secondary school and advising departments on the inclusion of the international dimension or facilitating contact with subject specialists who have already done so.  Leading idea generating sessions also a strength both in Scottish schools and internationally. My strengths lie in the Comenius fields as this is where I have spent most of international ‘career’.

Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

Since introducing eTwinning into the curriculum, lessons have become more relevant and inspirational for pupils. Pupils strive to reach high standards of achievement, knowing that their finished work has an audience; think creatively to produce well presented information that will interest others and enhance their communication and language skills through interacting with pupils in another European country.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

As a consequence of eTwinning, I have made a meaningful contribution to the development of Curriculum for Excellence and International Education within my school by: raising teacher awareness of eTwinning as a means of delivering all or part of the curriculum; sharing good practice in cross-curricular working; motivating colleagues to become involved in eTwinning and supporting those who do eTwinning has made a contribution towards my school achieving ISA.

Specialist areas:

“Vokis” – using Audacity to record voice messages.  My projects also involve the use of Wikis, digital video, photo montages and Flashmeeting.

Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

eTwinning is an excellent model for the delivery of 21st century learning: encouraging young people to link with young people overseas to develop their citizenship and curricular skills. It is easy to use and the twin space becomes an excellent resource for project outcomes and material for use beyond the duration of the project itself.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

Running an international link through ICT has enabled us to deliver our ICT curriculum to our pupils in a way that is innovative and motivational. It has allowed us to meet our curricular targets and course work through our eTwinning link for S1 and S2 pupils. It has also developed our CfE objectives and provided a real life context for learning French through our linked French partner school. It has also provided us with an invaluable project management space to share our work on social cohesion with linked partners in Spain, Cyprus and Latvia.

Specialist areas:

Development of CfE through eTwinning/Comenius. Developing Equality of Opportunity; Inclusion and Diversity through International Education Contexts

Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

eTwinning is an ideal way to investigate how to  develop International Education in your class. In Scotland especially, Curriculum for Excellence allows teachers some flexibility in how they deliver their International Education- and eTwinning is the perfect way to do it.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

Children are always open to new ways of learning- and they often know how to do things intuitively. Making international links through ICT allows children to use tools they are already familiar with, in a new and exciting way. This brings your school great credibility.

Specialist areas:

I have particular experience in using blogs, and video conferencing tools such as FlashMeeting. I have developed a number of small and large scale projects since becoming involved in eTwinning in 2007. I can offer advice and support if necessary to those teachers who wish to embark on a variety of types of projects relating to the primary curriculum.

Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

The eTwinning portal provides a secure central point to communicate, collaborate and share during the process of a European partnership.   The portal is not just for established partnerships, it is also a way to locate and connect with European partners.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

The main benefits of linking children with their international peers outweigh the non-connected classroom.  An authentic audience, an understanding and appreciation of other cultures, learning from one another, breaking the barriers down of the classroom walls and preparing our children for their globalised futures.

Specialist areas:

My specialist area is ICT in education through a vast array of social media tools to engage and connect children.  One of my main focuses is using tools that enable children to create, collaborate and connect through the use of the voice.  Other tools are ones that enable true collaborations where everyone is involved in the learning process.  Finally, handheld learning through the use of iPhones, iTouches, iPads and response systems are at the heart of my pedagogy. I also engage with the pedagogy behind collaborative practice, motivation for learning, 21st century learning and pupil engagement.
