IAESTE Work Placements

What is it about?

Are you currently in further or higher education and doing a science, engineering, technology or applied arts related course? If so, you may be interested in spending 6-52 weeks working abroad under the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience programme.

Where can I go?

There are 86 countries to choose from.

What does it cost?

You will have to cover the cost of your own travel to and from your placement, registration and insurance costs. However an in-country allowance is available to cover basic costs such as food, accommodation and local travel.

The precise allowance you are entitled to depends on the country you visit and your employer. Find out more here.

Am I eligible?

There are a wide number of opportunities available each year.

Anyone interested will need to ensure that they have the right profile in terms of skills, knowledge and experience for the job being offered. What you are studying will dictate what opportunities are available to you.

Applicants must be in further or higher education at the time of application and be between the ages of 19-30. If you speak another language it may work to your advantage!

What is the availability?

Availability is allocated at country level. See both of the links below for more advice.

What is the application deadline?

The deadline is between September and December. As above, application deadlines are dealt with at country level. The official British Council IAESTE website is full of useful information. There is also a step by step guide to the application process available.

Still not convinced why you should do it? Our sister site UK-Students Abroad can help ease these concerns!
