Erasmus Work Placement

What is it about?

Are you in higher education and interested in getting some work experience before applying for graduate jobs? If so, Erasmus is the opportunity for you. Erasmus Work Placements enables you to find work abroad for 3-12 months as part of your degree, which will help you to gain valuable international experience and look great on your CV!

Where can I go?

You can go to any of the 32 countries that take part in this EU programme. You can choose to work in most sectors; talk to your university Erasmus representative who can offer you help and guidance in finding a suitable placement.

What does it cost?

There is no fee for taking part and all eligible students can receive a grant that currently ranges from €270-€370 a month, depending on the country you visit.

Erasmus grants in the UK are paid through your home institution in addition to the standard grants or loans to which you are entitled.

There are also additional grants for students on short-term vocational higher education courses (foundation degree courses and HND level qualifications). These include students identified as eligible for the various widening participation premiums already operating at HE level across the UK.

It may also be worth looking at our sister site UK-Students Abroad for some guidance on Erasmus funding.

Am I eligible?

As long as you are studying at a higher educational institution that holds an Erasmus Charter you are eligible. The timing of your placement must be suited to your studies and university.

Those with a recognised degree or other recognised tertiary level qualification (up to and including the level of doctorate) can take part. If you are taking a short-term higher vocational educational course, such as a foundation degree course, or you are a part-time student, you can also participate providing you study full-time during your period abroad.

What is the availability and deadline?

Please contact your university Erasmus Office for more information on this.

Also, there is plenty of useful information on the British Council website and in the official guide.

Still not convinced why you should do it? Our sister site UK-Students Abroad can help ease these concerns!
