This project within the Living Together programme aims to empower and develop young leaders from minority and migrant communities across South East Europe, giving them the tools to articulate their ambitions, promote positive perceptions for their community and contribute to social change. The project will provide a platform for sharing their vision with the wider public and increase understanding of minority and migrant lives in Europe.
Imagine Your Future uses Digital Storytelling to enable young aspiring leaders to reflect upon their personal story and develop an aspirational message to wider society. Over two hundred participants aged 18-25 from ten countries will be involved in producing a two minute film about their lives and a vision for their future as a minority or migrant in their country. During the workshops, people learn how to write a script, record a voiceover and edit photos and drawings into a two-minute film.
The films are all being designed for wider media appeal, and aim to challenge people to stop, think again, and consider new ways of presenting minorities in the media, instead of the common stereotypes.

Young media professionals have been through our programme to share ideas and experiences and develop facilitation skills. They have all attended international training workshops and are now cascading this to groups of young people from minority and migrant communities. They lead and mentor them to express their dreams through producing digital media products. These facilitators work with each other in country clusters to learn from each other and deepen their intercultural awareness. |

Mainstream media organisations, corporations, institutions and NGOs are acting as champions for the project, and give practical support and guidance throughout the process, as well as increasing their own capacity to present minority perspectives. They will be key partners for launching the project in the public domain. |
The British Council’s main partner for Imagine your Future is DigiTales. The DigiTales method is based on simple media technology that is quick to learn and very accessible. This means that in a relatively short film, young people can produce their own story, with maximum control over how their stories are constructed at all stages of the process. The emphasis is on generating the story, rather than being distracted by high-tech, professional equipment.
The collection of digital stories told by young migrant and minority leaders across South East Europe will provide a rich resource of new and authentic media messages. As the stories are exhibited, exchanged and connected through the web, a patchwork quilt of personal moments builds to create an evolving picture of the diverse populations in the region.
