The Living Together education programme will develop links between ministries of education, education authorities, schools, teachers and students. It will encourage an exchange of best practice in the teaching and learning of citizenship-related subjects. The programme will concentrate on two main areas of activity: the development of educational material and school links.
We will undertake a consultation with stakeholders in the participating countries and our partners in the UK, to enable us to facilitate the sharing of existing school materials, and develop new materials, that support the teaching of citizenship and civic values across Europe. This will only cover secondary schools; we will not be working with primary schools. We will create a network of partnerships with schools and engage them in the production of new school materials. These new materials will be available online on the E-Languages site, so that teachers and educationalists can use them to support the development of innovation and complement the curriculum. We will work with schools that have been identified by local education authorities and ministries of education.
Our school linking programme will enable an exchange of ideas, experiences and viewpoints between teachers and students. This network will collaborate on the development of action research for curriculum innovation in the field of citizenship teaching. It will also provide case studies that reflect ‘compelling learning experiences’, innovation, or students’ commitment to their own learning. Both these activities will be based on the two main themes at the heart of Living Together (new migrant and minority communities). This will be supported with an online forum, which we'll create for this site later in the year.
