On September 2008 we launched an open photography competition for professional and amateur photographers to produce work reflecting issues around the two themes of Living Together:
the impact of migration on societies in South East Europe and the UK |
the participation of minority communities in public life. |
The competition was open to anyone aged 13-35 and was open to the following countries - Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia Montenegro, Turkey, Israel, Ukraine and United Kingdom. The competition closed on the 15th March.
Anyone aged 13 – 35 was invited to take and enter three photos to express their feelings on the following three briefs:
New faces new places |
A sense of home |
Migration - a new phenomenon? |
We received over 1,700 photos from 1,200 entrants. Thank you to all the participants for the fantastic photos! We will be producing a catalogue shortly which will include some of the competition entries.
The competition linked up with a series of public events called photographic treasure hunts – contributing to further arts activity across the region.
As a cross-cultural, language-free communication, we believe that art can be a powerful tool for expressing ideas, issues and experience. We particularly want the competition to encourage young people to express their thoughts on issues of diversity, participation in public life and intercultural dialogue.
