Teachers of English - Damascus, Syria (SYR-T-66) |

The British Council in Syria is recruiting teachers for the teaching centre in Damascus to start in September.
Our minimum requirements: highly proficient use of English, first degree or equivalent qualification (NQF L6/L7) with a Certificate level qualification in TEFL and 1800 -2000+ hours of post-certificate experience.
You will have experience of teaching general English to adults and in exam preparation courses and specific knowledge and skills related to either teaching YLs (Primary, Middle and Secondary) or Business English.
Salary is in the range £948 to £999 per month (depending on level of qualification) with approx 55% paid in local currency. The package also includes an accommodation allowance which, in most cases, covers all rent due. The British Council Korea is recruiting full time EFL Teachers for our growing Teaching Centres in Korea. Possible start dates are: 28th December 2010 (January term), 27th February 2011 (March term) and 24th April 2011 (April term). Please state your preferred start date in your application form. These posts offer some of the best developmental opportunities in the British Council Network and the chance to earn and save well in a modern Asian city with a well-developed infrastructure and low crime rate.
To be considered, you should be a highly proficient user of English with a degree from an English Speaking country. Please note the original degree transcripts are essential for visa purposes. You should also have a internationally recognised TEFL-I qualification (i.e. CELTA or equivalent) and a minimum of 2 years post-certificate teaching experience with a wide range of classes, levels and age groups.

Training Co-ordinator (Agouza) - Cairo, Egypt (EGY-T-81) |

The British Council in Cairo is recruiting two Training Co-ordinators to start at the end of September. UK or Egyptian passport essential.
The two Egypt Teaching Centres (Agouza & Heliopolis) are strong contributors to the British Council’s ELT work across the Arabic-speaking region, Cairo being a hub for activities across the Near East and North Africa and also a regional training centre. In Agouza, the larger of the two centres, we run adult and young learner courses throughout the year as well as TKT, CELTA and DELTA orientation courses. You will play a key role in the delivery of the British Council's Teacher Support Programme for newly qualified teachers. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher to build their interest in and gain experience of teacher training and development.

Teacher/teacher trainer - Sarawak and Sabah, Malaysia (MAL-T-97) |

We are looking for teacher/teacher trainers to be part of an exciting new project with the Malaysian Ministry of Education. This is an excellent development opportunity for anyone interested in teacher training.
You will be part of a team of trainers working to provide Malaysian early primary teachers with methodology training, teaching resources and continuous professional development in order to improve the teaching of English in Malaysia.
You will work within a cluster of schools delivering a range of innovative British Council training courses to Malaysian early primary English teachers.
You must have a minimum of a TEFL-I qualification (CELTA/CertTESOL or equivalent) and 2 years’ full time post-qualification experience including young learners. We will also consider applicants who are PGCE qualified with QTS. Experience of teacher training/development, line management or coaching/mentoring is desirable. You must be a highly proficient speaker of English and you must have a first degree or equivalent. (NQF L6/L7).

Teacher Trainers - LIBYA (LBY-S-51) |

The British Council Libya is recruiting eight full time Teacher Trainers to work on a new project providing teacher training and English language teaching to secondary school teachers in Libya. This new project ‘Libya English Teaching in Secondary Schools’ (LETSS) will work in close cooperation with our well established Libyan English Teaching in Universities Project (LETUP). You will be based in one of the established university language centres and will also be required to make frequent visits to secondary schools to observe teaching practice. You will be responsible for implementing and delivering the teacher training and English language training programmes working in coordination with the secondary school teachers, Language Centre Manager and administrators, the British Council Project Manager and Teacher Trainers from other centres.
This is a very varied and challenging position working in a bi-cultural environment as part of a team of 11, delivering Teacher Training and General English courses to Secondary School English Teachers.

The British Council is recruiting a Training & Academic Manager to work in Al-Jabel Al-Gharbi University in Gharyan, Libya, as part of the Libyan English Teaching in Universities Project (LETUP) from September 1st 2010. UK passport essential. Also essential: TEFL Diploma (eg DELTA, Trinity Dip. TESOL etc.) and at least 4 years experience of teaching EFL.
This project is focused on establishing high quality language centres in ten universities which are fully run and staffed by Libyan university employees. This is a very varied and challenging position working in a bi-cultural environment. The overall goal of the Training & Academic Manager is to ensure the long-term sustainability of the language centres which we have established so far. Working with one other British Council teacher/trainer and on average 6 Libyan teaching assistants, Training & Academic Managers implement and deliver the Training & Development programmes of Libyan Teaching Assistants, the Language Centre Administrators and the BC teacher/trainers. Training & Academic Managers also take responsibility for the day-to-day academic management of the teaching team in the language centres, from organising timetabling, tests & meetings through to syllabus & materials design and delivery. You will also be required to teach English to post-graduate students at the university.
Successful candidates need to be able to live and work in remote locations, have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy leading & developing others. You do not need previous experience of teaching TKT, ICELT or equivalent as this can be arranged. One year contract only.

British Council Sri Lanka is recruiting a Senior Training Consultant to join the state education strand of Project English in Sri Lanka.
Project English began in 2007 with the aim of raising the standard of English of young aspiring people in India and Sri Lanka (ISL), to facilitate their access to education and career opportunities. We are aiming to train 750,000 teachers of English in India over the five year period 2008 to 2012, working with both the corporate and state sectors in the ISL region.
In the state sector, the project focus is on:
- Improving language proficiency of teachers
- Improving teaching methodologies in schools
- Providing a range of teaching resources to increase reach and impact.
- Curriculum reform
As a Senior Training Consultant, you will be responsible for the project management design and delivery of trainer training and teacher training programmes for primary, secondary and tertiary level teachers in the state sector.
We are offering a two-year contract starting on or near October 4th.
Essential recruitment requirements are
- First degree, or equivalent, in any subject, from a recognised university
- TEFL-Q (DELTA, Trinity Dip. TESOL or PGCE in TEFL or equivalent TEFL diploma)
- At least two years experience of teaching EFL after completing TEFL-Q
- Proven and significant ability to design, deliver and facilitate courses/events in Teacher/trainer training, mentoring and professional development.

The British Council Cairo is recruiting a Senior Teacher Adult Courses for the Heliopolis Teaching Centre. UK or Egyptian passport essential. This is an excellent opportunity for a Coordinator or Senior Teacher to develop and broaden their skills and experience in a wide range of academic and business management areas.
The Heliopolis Centre currently provides English language training to over 1000 adult students and 500 YLs every term. Liaising with the Senior Teacher Academic in the Agouza Centre, you will be responsible for providing the academic and operational lead on Adult Courses in Heliopolis for a diverse and friendly teaching team of approximately 28 teachers.
You will be a key member of the Heliopolis management team (consisting of Branch Manager, Senior Teacher Young Learners, Senior Teacher Adult Courses and 4 Coordinators) all of whom work closely together to manage the day-to-day running of this medium-sized Teaching Centre.
