INSPIRE: International Strategic Partnerships in Research and Education

The strategic Partnership Deadline has now Past.

UPDATE - PAKISTAN - The Call for Proposals for Pakistan INSPIRE Strategic Partnerships will be announced after final agreement has been reached between HEC [Higher Education Commission] and British Council. The announcement is likely to be made in early January 2010. If you would like to be informed of any developments nearer the time, please email Chris Leighton

What is an INSPIRE strategic partnership?

INSPIRE defines a strategic partnership as one that aims to develop an institution-to-institution link based on a number of different areas of activity. These could be a mix of the following activities: research co-operation, teacher exchange, curriculum development, student exchange or collaborative programme development.

Over the course of the partnership, institutions should aim to involve different levels and departments within the university to create a multi-dimensional, international relationship.

The aims of Strategic Partnerships are:

to strengthen links between UK and participating countries in Central & South Asia
to raise the profile of innovative and high quality partnerships between the UK and participating countries
to build capacity in HEIs through the further development of staff's professional skills and international research competence
to help build sustainable partnerships based on research and teaching agendas
to trial possible models for future co-operation.

Eligible partners

Eligible partners are Higher Education Institutions in UK and government-recognised HEIs in Central & South Asia. These can be both private and public universities.

Strategic Partnerships are currently available in:

Afghanistan
Bangladesh
Kazakhstan
Pakistan (Expected in January 2010)
