Partnership Start-up Scheme

"British Council has truly helped us to develop on a global basis."
Sanjeev Ohri, Director of Worldwide Operations, Dudley College, UK

In response to feedback from the skills sector in the UK and internationally, British Council has launched a new scheme to support UK organisations to develop international skills partnerships with counterpart organisations in selected countries. The scheme reflects an increasingly flexible approach to international skills partnerships and encourages organisations to be proactive and innovative in exploring and developing international collaboration opportunities.

Under the scheme UK organisations are invited to:

  • identify appropriate partnership opportunities with institutions in participating countries that meet the national skills priorities of the country or countries concerned
  • apply to British Council for matching funding to support their partnership project proposals. These applications can be made at any time.

Participating countries

  • China
  • Egypt
  • Iraq
  • Libya
  • Morocco
  • Tunisia
  • Vietnam
  • Yemen

Writing a start-up partnership project proposal

Before embarking on a start-up partnership proposal please read our General Guidelines to International Skills Partnerships. These include important information that will help you understand how British Council International Skills Partnerships work and what makes a good partnership. This information will help ensure that your proposal is as strong as possible.

The start-up partnership project proposal form is available here. Before completing, please refer to the full guidelines available here, which will provide help and advice in completing each section. You can also download the assessment grid, which will be used by the assessment panel to evaluate your proposal.

Completed partnership project proposal forms should be submitted to International Skills Partnerships Manager, Miranda Swanson at miranda.swanson@britishcouncil.org.

Please note that this is a competitive process: partnership project proposals are assessed by an expert panel including British Council skills experts, sector representatives and representatives from the relevant countries. Proposals will be assessed both on how well the proposal meets the objectives set out above, and on how well it compares with other partnership project proposals received.
