The Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training manages the main vocational training structure in Yemen, and is responsible for:

vocational and technical centres
vocational institutes
technical institutes.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research oversees community colleges and various ministries manage other types of training in specific industries such as telecommunications, fishing, oil and banking.

There are now over 187 private sector institutions authorised to conduct training, many of them in the Amanah of Sana’a and Hadramout provinces. They offer short courses in subjects such as computing, administrative skills, management and accounting.

International co-operation

The Ministry has worked to develop international relations to build the TEVT system in Yemen. This has taken the form of agreements, memorandums of understandings, executive programmes, and work plans with countries including Saudi Arabia, Syria, the Netherlands and France.

Highlights of these activities include:

organising study tours to gain experience
receiving delegations from Korea, China and Canada and learning about vocational education training trends in other countries
carrying out training courses in Korea, Egypt, Japan and India for teachers, instructors and administrative cadres in subjects including information and telecommunications technology
linking vocational education training with the labour market and private sector requirements
determining the training needs for headmasters of vocational and technical institutes.
