Qatar

Qatar has made significant investment in expanding education and training, and in modernising provision. Qatar aims to become one of the world’s strongest knowledge societies.

One of the smaller Gulf states, Qatar has one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and the highest income per head of population. Located on a peninsula in the Arabian Gulf, Qatar has good transport connections with most other Gulf states.

Curriculum Development
Qatar tends to buy in qualifications rather than design its own. Bespoke courses may be developed by Qatar Petroleum or other training providers to meet certain needs. Otherwise, the curriculum will be designed by the provider or the provider nation.

Qualifications and Accreditation
Qatar does not have its own Qatari qualifications. The general practice is to buy in internationally recognised qualifications. There is not considered to be a need for a Qatari national qualification in vocational training, and the qualifications which are awarded are accredited by internationally recognised awarding bodies like TAFE or City & Guilds.

Quality Assurance
There is no national quality assurance mechanism. The quality of teaching at institutions like the The College of the North Atlantic – Qatar will be assured by the parent college in Canada. Qatar Petroleum assures the quality of its own courses.
