National Vocational Education Training strategy
Skills around the World: Qatar

Currently, there does not seem to be a coherent overall strategy for vocational education and training in Qatar.

A 2007 report by the Government of Qatar on ‘Turning Qatar into a Competitive Knowledge-Based Economy’ states that:

there are few links and formal relationships between Qatari training institutions and the needs of the labour market
education and training institutions are highly separated with little co-ordination
there are no linkages between training and job career prospects.

However, the same report adds that there are several initiatives now under consideration as part of the National Labor Market Strategy to improve vocational education as well as post-compulsory training.

These include:

developing a National Qualification Framework
creating better links between education and the labour market
introducing career guidance and job counselling
enhancing the labour market relevance of school and tertiary education curricula
collecting and analysing outcomes in vocational and adult education and training.
