The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs

The National Manpower Development Department has been established recently as part of the Ministry of Labour. The department is concerned with planning the use of the national workforce and implementing these plans.

As its main aim is to provide local youth with jobs according to their qualifications and desires, the National Manpower Department has put together a plan of training programmes and vocational rehabilitation programmes that address unemployed youth.

As part of the process, the department holds career guidance sessions for applicants that are looking for jobs. This process is handled by a relatively small team of members that are trained to give job counselling but not qualified enough to do so.

Supreme Education Council

The Advising and Career Centre of the SEC focuses on providing comprehensive advising and career counselling services that will help students and graduates make educational and career choices based on their interests and abilities as well as the needs of the labour market. The centre also organises outreach to public, independent and private schools to help students apply for undergraduate studies according to market needs.

Qatar Foundation

The Academic Bridge Programme provides services that offer students career guidance and counselling services. ABP guides students through the career advising programme, by providing them with tools for academic self-assessment. As a step forward to raise awareness of the market needs and provide career guidance services, Qatar Foundation, along with different bodies such as Qatar University and Qatar Petroleum, attended Qatar Career Fair 2008.

The career fair aimed to showcase the variety of recruitment, training and career opportunities available to Qatari students. The fair was an important forum where employers could interact with students and educators to discuss and explore the opportunities available to the next generation of employees. In turn, students were able to gain a clearer idea of the job market and their future employability.
