Within the corporate world in Libya, oil companies provide the majority of in-company training.
There are several common threads amongst companies that offer training:
Staff training is an important issue and there are good budgets for staff training. |
They employ both expatriate and local teaching staff in their training centres. |
English language and work-related technical skills are taught. It is more difficult for companies to find vocational teachers than EFL teachers. |
After initial training, many staff go abroad for further training. |
Before a member of staff can go abroad, the minimum EFL qualification to be achieved is UCLES Preliminary English Test (PET). |
Serious consideration is given to providing more in-house training, perhaps in partnership with international providers as a way of addressing huge training needs. |
There is a great desire to offer up-to-date UK qualifications, but little information exists as to the possibilities on offer. |
