Libya

In the last few years Libya has become a centre for both local and foreign investment. With the changes in the labour law and developments such as the rise in construction in the country, there has been a greater demand for skilled workers.

Vocational education plays a major supporting role in providing the skilled workers that Libya needs. As a result, in 2009 the government established the Libyan Authority for Labour and Vocational Training.

Vocational schools in Libya offer programmes for 44 different vocations in seven major fields: electrical; mechanical; carpentry, building and architectural; inclusive female vocations; service industry; agricultural; and marine fishing.

Official statistics suggest that 50-60 per cent of Libyan students graduating from the nine-year basic education cycle enrol in programmes offered at intermediate vocation training centres.
