Skills around the World: Iraq

Due to the fluctuating political situation after the 2003 war, there is no announced policy or strategy regarding the Vocational Education Training process in Iraq. However, the general trend is that the Iraqi government is looking to this sector to fulfil two goals.

The first goal is to support the large numbers of unemployed young people, previous militia members and other targeted groups. The government hopes to help this group find jobs or create their own businesses by providing quick and reliable training courses, together with loans or grants. This initiative forms an integral part of the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
The second goal is to train people in the technical skills necessary to help in the rebuilding and reconstruction process.
