Skills around the World: Iraq

There is a great need for international organisations and networks to be involved in the vocational education training process in Iraq.

A number of organisations are already involved in the process, including UNESCO, USAID, US army, GAIKA (Japanese), British Council, and organisations from Italy, Germany (GTZ) and France.

Most of these organisations are working on reconstructing the infrastructure and building the capacity of the FTE's, whether in Baghdad or in the northern part of Iraq.

Other organisations are conducting training workshops for unemployed young people and special target groups such as former militia members.

International organisations are now shifting their focus towards funding capacity building, training provision for T1s and T2s, policy dialogue and strategic planning. The Iraqi government is taking over the task of funding infrastructure rehabilitation, using oil revenues.
