Introduction
Hong Kong: Careers Guidance

Government initiatives on employment

In January 2009, the government announced a series of measures to create employment, internship and training opportunities to cope with the expected wave of layoffs and to assist school leavers entering the labour market in the middle of the year. The 2009-10 Budget announced in February also prioritised job creation and preservation. The Hong Kong government is seeking to create around 62,000 employment and internship opportunities in the next three years.

Fresh graduates

Faced with the entry of fresh graduates and school leavers into the labour market, the Hong Kong government has enhanced programmes to encourage employment among youths and launched an internship programme for university graduates. The programme aims to provide about 4,000 places for university graduates to work as interns and receive training in local and Mainland enterprises for six to 12 months.
