China

China is keen to develop its vocational education resources in order to cope with two principal problems facing the Chinese workforce: low quality and a lack of skilled technicians.

As a result, in 2005 the Ministry of Education announced it would develop 100 high quality vocational colleges to boost China’s vocational education system. At the same time, the State Council earmarked the equivalent of around 1.23 billion US dollars to support vocational education.

Over the last 20 years, China has also been actively engaged in international co-operation and exchange in the field of vocational education, to ensure that it learns from successful foreign experiences of Skills education.
