Skills around the World: Bahrain

The total population of Bahrain was around 1,046,814 in December 2007, with 50% of the population being Bahraini. The remaining 50% of the population comprises non-Bahrainis, mainly from Asia and other countries. There has been a massive recruitment of expatriates during the last two years, due to the boom in the economy.

The population of Bahrain is growing. In July 2007, the population was divided up as follows:

0-14 years: 26.4% (male 96,217/female 94,275)
15-64 years: 69.8% (male 284,662/female 207,555)
65 years and over: 3.8% (male 13,451/female 12,413).

female: 77.25 years
population growth rate: 1.392%
birth rate: 17.53 births/1,000 population
death rate: 4.21 deaths/1,000 population.

29.7 years total
32.7 years male
26.1 years female.
