FURTHER EDUCATION MEASURES ONE AND TWO
Prime Minister's Initiative - PMI2 Connect

Aims
The overall aims of the PMI2 Further Education Partnership Fund (FEPF) are to:

ensure a substantial focus on vocational skills and non-traditional routes to higher education within PMI2, in accordance with government policies in a number of the target countries
facilitate the important role of FE / Sixth Form Colleges as key contributors to 'global skills, world class learning' and to TVET reform agendas in specific PMI2 countries
support FE / Sixth Form Colleges in positioning themselves effectively within the changing landscape of international education and training and broadening the scope of their global / international activities
support FE / Sixth Form Colleges in developing international partnerships – this will result in innovative approaches to the design and delivery of training and education programmes and related services.

How it is funded
PMI2 FE funding is split into two separate measures:

Measure 1 of the fund is managed by the AoC in association with the British Council and provides grants to support entrepreneurial strategic partnerships activities undertaken by UK colleges, working individually or in consortia, which target PMI2 priority countries and contribute to the achievement of PMI2 aims and objectives. These either have short- or medium-term commercial outcomes or result in other types of benefits for the partners, which are consistent with the aims and priorities of PMI2 overall. Please note that all UK FE and Sixth Form Colleges are eligible to apply for Measure 1 grants.

Measure 2 of the fund is managed by the British Council and provides grants to support the contribution of international partnerships between UK colleges, other VET / HE institutions, sector bodies, employers, government agencies and other relevant organizations. Measure 2 objectives concern the contribution of global college partnerships to education development and reform agendas in specific PMI2 priority countries. The target PMI2 countries for the 2008 / 2009 Measure 2 FE partnerships call included the following:

  • China
  • Russia (projects continuing from 2007 / 2008 only)
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Sri Lanka
  • Thailand
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Vietnam

As a result of the 2008 / 2009 call for funding via the joint Measure 1 / Measure 2 Prospectus, we are pleased to announce that this year, some 44 UK FE colleges are beneficiaries of grant funding in support of partnership projects across Measures 1 and 2.
