Dramatic changes in international education suggest a very different landscape for the future – one in which both the UK’s positioning and many of its markets will depend on strong strategic overseas partnerships.

If we are to reach our goals, we must achieve a major step change in this area. Through PMI2, we will work with governments, education providers and industry in identified countries to build strategic alliances and partnerships.


What opportunities are available?
Throughout 2009-11, PMI2 Connect will continue to offer pump-prime funding opportunities to build partnerships between institutions in the UK and in selected countries worldwide. All funded partnerships will be mutual and complementary, and be sustainable beyond PMI2 funding.


Higher Education Funding opportunities
PMI2 Connect has so far successfully funded 370 Higher Education international partnerships in research, collaborative delivery, student exchanges and the development of strategic links at institutional level

Knowledge Transfer Policy Dialogue: Enabling a culture of innovation and outreach - British Council INSPIRE, in partnership with the Pakistan Higher Education Commission, will be hosting a policy dialogue in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 23 and 24 November 2010 for policy makers and practitioners in the field of knowledge transfer. The deadlines for applications for the UK-US New Partnership Fun, .US Travel Grants, Partnership Development Grants, Nigeria Collaborative, Collaborative Programme Delivery and China-UK Collaborative Partnerships in Employability and Entrepreneurship have now passed.

Further Education Funding opportunities
Over 100 partnerships involving over 250 institutions worldwide have been created globally under PMI2 Connect between Further Education colleges on a range of teaching, learning and skills development activities and exchanges.

The deadline for the 2010-11 Further Education Partnerships Fund has now passed. A list of the succesful partnerships is avaliable here. For reference the 2010-11 call documents are available here.
PMI2 FE has so far supported over 100 FE Partnerships involving over 250 colleges worldwide. PMI2 has provided £1m matched by £1.1m from the college partners.

Policy Dialogues
At government and policy level, we bring together relevant parties to engage pro-actively and collaboratively in addressing significant global education challenges through a series of Policy Dialogues. Reports from previous dialogues are available to download.

Cross-border higher education in Nigeria: The British Council has been asked to identify UK institutions with links already in Nigeria to be part of a pilot scheme to run cross-border higher education (CBHE) in Nigeria.
