Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL), JET SET

AQA's Certificates in English Language Skills (ESOL), JET SET, are designed to assess and reward the positive achievement in the acquisition of English.

Used in over 40 countries worldwide, the JET SET series of tests is designed for candidates whose first language is not English. The tests are taken under examination conditions at increasing levels of difficulty and cover the four main areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking English.

Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) Pre-Entry JET Foundation is aimed at students beginning to learn English as a Foreign Language.

Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) Pre-Entry JET One is aimed at students developing their language skills.

Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) Entry 1 JET Two enables students to progress from Pre-Entry JET One.

Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) Entry 2 JET Three enables students to use a basic range of English language sufficient for communication and practical needs.

Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) JET Four consolidates and reinforces grammatical structures and vocabulary already acquired.

Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) Entry 3 SET One enables students to use English language adequately in familiar situations.

Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) Level 1 SET Two is aimed at students at an intermediate level of proficiency in the use of the English language.

The specifications and papers are communicative in approach and are developed to meet the candidates' interests.

The speaking component consists of three parts and is conducted by an external Oral Assessor within two weeks of the written papers.

Skills tested: Pre-Entry Foundation assesses receptive skills only. Other tests consist of a listening comprehension and a written paper. Candidates receive a certificate listing scores in four areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. A speaking component is offered in UK and in selected countries overseas

Availability: The Certificate in English Language Skills (ESOL) series of tests is available to registered AQA centres throughout the year, on-demand, on a date (or dates) chosen by the centre. To receive further information or to register as a centre contact the Development Office at AQA
