Review of English in Britain Accreditation Scheme
Students sitting exams.
We are currently reviewing the English in Britain Accreditation Scheme, in the light of recent government initiatives towards registration of English Language Teaching providers and possible compulsory accreditation of all those on the register. We aim to ensure that the Scheme is as inclusive and relevant as possible to the full range of ELT providers, without compromising standards. We are taking as our starting point two recently commissioned reports.
OUTLINE OF THE REVIEW PROCESS
The consultant, Sue Mace, outlines the background, objectives and process of her review.
RESEARCH INTO PRIVATE ENGLISH LANGUAGE SCHOOLS OUTSIDE THE ENGLISH IN BRITAIN ACCREDITATION SCHEME (FEBRUARY 2004)
This report commissioned by the British Council and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) establishes the number of private ELT schools operating in the UK outside the framework of the English in Britain Accreditation scheme. Based on data from the 500 schools identified, the report suggests areas in which the Scheme could change in order to attract more members.
REGULATION OF PRIVATE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING INSTITUTIONS (MARCH 2004)
This report commissioned by the British Council explores the current regulation of private ELT institutions in England and Wales, providers‘ perceptions of the current accreditation scheme (Chapter 4), and suggests options for registration and accreditation procedures (Chapter 6).
