The implementation of the European Youth Charter on Inclusion and Diversity in Education

PROJECTS AND CLUSTERS

School management teams, acting on The European Youth Charter on Inclusion and Diversity in Education , will launch school based projects in the 2008-09 academic year within participating countries.  Evaluation of these policies will lead to the publication of shared best practice guidelines for policy makers and school leaders.

The following cluster groups will collaborate on the INDIE project:

  • Germany – Netherlands – Wales
  • Spain – Portugal – Greece – Scotland
  • Italy – Belgium – England – Malta

Head teachers, school coordinators and partners of the different cluster groups met in April and May 2008 to finalise the school projects they feel will best put the European Youth Charter on Inclusion and Diversity into practice. Between September 2008 and June 2009, the 50 INDIE schools will each work on two projects within their country cluster group. All project plans and other resources are available for download below.

TIPS AND RESOURCES

Long Term:
It is essential that the projects are not just one off activities but that they are embedded in school

Ongoing evaluation and recording outcomes:
It is part of the ongoing evaluation to record all in-school projects related events through collecting anecdotal information from participants, other members of staff and pupils, parents. Simply write down evidence as you hear it. Take photographs of meetings, work etc. The British Council has also prepared monitoring tools for schools to use. You can download the monitoring form and the monitoring questionnaire.

Resources:
For projects involving student voice, the following online documentation over School Councils in the UK is an excellent starting point:
