Comenius funding
If you decide to apply for a Comenius assistantship (for example, as a trainee teacher on a placement, for in-service training in another country) you’ll be taking the first steps towards an exciting European experience and you’ll need to find out what funding is available.
To be eligible for the Comenius programme and receive funding you will have to meet certain requirements. You should have completed two years in higher education (and not previously received a Comenius Grant).
If you are a successful applicant, you will receive a grant: depending on your destination country, this will range from 2500 to 6000 euros for a 13-week programme. Beyond that period, for weeks 14-45, you will receive a weekly rate, again depending on the country where you are working. You can find out more information, including a country-by-country breakdown at the Comenius funding page.
The Comenius grant is designed to help with living, travel and visa costs. Additionally, assistants can also apply for a one-off 500 euro grant towards language classes and preparation costs.
You can read about the experiences of two assistants on the British Council’s Comenius Case Study page.
