Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed has been a Member (Operations & Planning) of the Higher Education Committion since January 2005. With a Masters in Business Administration and a PhD from the University of California, Riverside USA Professor Mukhtar has a distinguished career with diverse Academic, Research and Administrative experience both in public and private sectors of higher education. He has worked with numerous educational institutions in different capacities as Professor of Business Administration/ Management Sciences, Rector, Dean, Chairman, Consultant Coordinator, Project Director, Director Student Affairs and Director Campus.
Professor Mukhtar is responsible for supervising and managing a portfolio of Rs.22.5 billion (2009-10) Public Sector Development Plans (PSDP) for Higher Education Sector in Pakistan. His responsibilities include: i) identifying and developing strategic plans for higher education reforms; ii) ensuring proper management, monitoring, utilization of funds and implementation of programmes; iii) guiding and collaborating with all public sector universities in the development of short and medium term projects and development of a long term vision; iv) formulating the PSDP of the higher education sector, and overall administration and coordination including human resources management of the Higher Education Commission Islamabad.
