Dr Gwang-Jo Kim has been Director of the UNESCO Office in Bangkok and Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific, as well as UNESCO Representative to Thailand, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Singapore since January 2009.
Prior to this Dr Kim worked in the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea, Seoul, where he advised and assisted the former President Young Sam Kim in the fields of education and social policy. Between 2001 and 2004 Dr Kim was affiliated with the World Bank as Senior Education Specialist at its Headquarters in Washington DC, before returning to Korea to take up the post of Director-General of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MOEHRD). In 2005 Dr Kim was appointed Deputy-Minister of Education and Human Resources Development of the Republic of Korea, where he was charged with leading policy development in the areas of higher education, technical and vocational education, lifelong learning and human resources development.
Dr Kim is a member of various professional associations on education policy, finance and economics, and has published works in his area of expertise, including on education and ICT, and educational reform.
Dr Kim will be participating in the World potential; making education meet the challenge and the Educational strategies in the quality assurance of TNE sessions.
