Sally’s background is in the arts but since joining the British Council over 20 years ago she has moved progressively into the governance and education sectors.  Sally spent the first 10 years of her British Council career in the UK, latterly as Director of Operations in the International Seminars Department. She has worked for the past 11 years overseas and has been based in the Palestinian Territories, Turkey, and Egypt before her current posting to India.   In the Palestinian Territories and Turkey Sally led the Council’s governance agenda, and in particular managed one of the largest human rights portfolios on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.   While working in Egypt as Deputy Director, Sally was also Director of Education for the Near East and North Africa, a remit covering 9 countries from Morocco through to Syria.  During her time overseas Sally has also managed large scale donor funded projects in Education and Governance for World Bank, DFID and the European Commission.

Sally took up her current role as Director of Education India for the British Council in September 2008.   In this role Sally has responsibility and oversight of the British Council’s work on UKIERI, Examinations, Education UK, Sports, Scholarships and Alumni, as well as all the work with Schools, HEI’s and in the skills agenda.
