Professor Richard Allen
Richard Allen is a Professor of English at the Open University (OU), specialising in literary relations between Britain and India. He has been Visiting Professor at the Universities of Mumbai and Delhi and most recently delivered a paper at the Centenary Conference organised by the Satihya Akademi to honour the work of the novelist Raja Rao. He has a long career at the Open University and was Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 1998–99 and 2000–07. Latterly he has also been Project Leader of the first phase of the University’s wideranging Review of Student Support and, since 2007, the Leader for the Open University of the UK–India Educational Research Initiative, a collaborative project with Delhi University (aimed at developing the take-up of eLearning within a blended learning environment in Delhi University). He has an interest in quality assurance and was co-chair of the OU’s successful submission for accreditation by the US Middle States Commission for Higher Education. He is also a Quality Assurance Agency Auditor. Professor Allen delivered a paper on quality assurance in distance education at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Higher Education Summit in November 2007.
