Peter Upton is Country Director for the British Council in Nigeria, the largest British Council operation in sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to working in Nigeria he was Country Director in Thailand with responsibility for education in East Asia. He has extensive experience in international education and previously led the British Council's Education and Training Group, responsible for their global education portfolio. He designed the TIPD and IHTP programmes, led the National Agency for Socrates and Leonardo, jointly designed the education section of the 2004 entente cordiale with France and has led a range of policy initiatives in schools, vocational and higher education. He has spoken extensively at conferences and is published on a range of topics.
