Dr. Deng Yaping has an unparalleled experience as a world-class table tennis athlete and she was champions of many important sport games including the 25th and 26th Olympic Games held respectively in Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996.
As representative of all Chinese athletes, she made the final bidding statement for Beijing 2000 Olympic Games. She joined the board of Chinese Olympic Committee in 2003 and became executive board member in 2005. During the recent 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Dr. Deng served as Deputy Director of Olympic Village Department of Beijing Organizing Committee of Olympic Games as well as Spokeswoman of Olympic (Paralympics) Village Department. Her current duties in China also include member of the 11th Chinese People’s Political Consultative, Chairman of Laureus Friends and Champions-China Conference of China, and member of the 10th All-China Youth Federation. She has been playing a number of important international roles, including member of Sports and Environment Commission of International Olympic Committee, member of Athletes Commission of International Olympic Committee as well as member of Laureus World Sports Academy. Dr. Deng was awarded a PhD degree by the University of Cambridge in 2008 and she completed her MA and BA degree programmes respectively in Nottingham University and Tsinghua University.
