John Mallea is President Emeritus of Brandon University and Senior Adviser to the Centre for Higher Education and Research and Development (CHERD), University of Manitoba. He has been an Invited Visiting Professor at universities in Australia, Canada, Japan, and Mexico and the Invited Wei Lun Fellow at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As Head of JRM and Associates (International Consultants) he has carried out consultancies for the OECD, the World Bank, CIDA and several governments.
He has published widely on Canadian cultural pluralism, education and the internationalization of higher education, chaired external evaluations of the latter at the National University of Mexico and the Universities of Guadalajara and Nuevo Leon, and offered workshops on internationalization in Canada, Mexico and Paraguay.
His current research project, based on visits to over 70 Canadian universities, is titled “Going Global: Transforming Canadian Universities.
He is the recipient of the Distinguished Educator Award of the University of Toronto (1996) and the Canadian Bureau for International Education’s Award of Merit for Contributions to International Education (1997).
