How can the international education community understand and reach out to a “netizen population” of more than 250 million?
China is experiencing a major explosion in its digital culture. Chinese “netizens” are using social internet sites and Web 2.0 on a much grander scale than the west. QQ, one of the most popular sites in China generated revenue $520 million and a profit of $224 million in 2007. But in the same year, Facebook made a loss of $50 million on a total revenue of $150 million. The difference in scale is astonishing. In this session, online digital entrepreneur Sam Flemming provides an insight into this phenomenon and explores how international educators must respond.
