Tallulah Cherry interned at the British Council during the summer of 2015. Read more about her experience interning for British Council.
During the internship, I received incredible support and guidance but also been challenged and encouraged to shape the path of my internship according to my own interests. I was given the opportunity to work on a range of projects with colleagues from around the British Council’s global network. Throughout the 12 weeks, I was always actively encouraged to share my ideas and contribute to meetings and everyone has been committed to supporting me, particularly at the start of the internship when I was finding my feet. I really enjoyed interning at the British Council and I wish I could have stayed longer and done more!
The Human Resources team were wonderful; they were incredibly positive, enthusiastic, supportive and readily available if we had any queries or problems. Though I didn’t have any problems during my internship, I feel that if I did, I would have been comfortable and able to speak to confide in the HR team. They made us feel like valued members of the organisation and provided us with a range of support throughout the internship in the form of career development sessions and workshops.
Overall, my experience as an intern at the British Council was wonderful. It was unquestionably challenging but that assisted with my development, both personally and professionally. The internship programme was unique and I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to work at the British Council and gain such an invaluable experience. Contributing hugely to my time in the organisation was the colleagues I worked with who have been supportive and positive throughout. The length of the internship was a sufficient amount of time to really get to know the role and the organisation. In consequence, I feel as though I was able to make a valuable contribution, both in my department and in the intern project.
