Our pioneering community rugby programme Try Rugby SP, has been acclaimed for its enormous impact in Brazil after winning the prestigious Community Programme of the Year Award at the Rugby Expo Awards 2013.
Working with our partners Premiership Rugby and Social Services for Industry (SESI), Try Rugby SP is engaging with children and young people in schools and the local community, developing educational, social and health benefits, as well as raising the numbers of young people playing the game of Rugby in Brazil.
“The Try Rugby SP programme is a great example of the way that the British Council uses the power of sport to engage with young people and connect them to the UK. We are therefore especially delighted to receive the Community Programme of the Year Award at the Rugby Expo Awards 2013” said Dr Jo Beall, Director Education and Society, British Council.
“We believe that this award is recognition of the impact that Try Rugby SP has had on the ground in Brazil, already reaching 50,000 young people in its first year, and also of the strong partnership between the British Council, Premiership Rugby and Social Service for Industry (SESI) in Brazil in ensuring the success of the programme.
“We are very excited about the future of Try Rugby SP and aim to extend its benefits to many more young people in Brazil.”
“SESI are proud to partner with Premiership Rugby and the British Council on the award winning Try Rugby programme,” said Paulo Skaf, SESI - São Paulo and Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIES) President.
