Improving learning outcomes in Lebanon

Through a new project funded by the World Bank, the British Council is working with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Lebanon to help improve learning outcomes for school students across the country.

Running until 2016, the Second Education Development Project brings together the British Council and its partners, the Lebanese American University and the Lebanese University. The British Council is managing the ‘School Improvement Project’ strand of the wider project.

The project will design and implement a school self-assessment and assessment model in 300 public schools in Lebanon, based on effective school standards and indicators prepared by the ministry.

Training will be delivered to members of the ministry, to ensure effective follow up of school improvement plans and grant support programmes currently being implemented, as well as a cadre of facilitators, who will support schools in these areas.

The programme has a total value of US$1 million.
