The Request (dated 4 April 2018)

Dear Sir/Madam,
 
I am making a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. As part of a study into the effectiveness of European rules relating to the use of Cookies online, I am requesting further information to understand if visitors to your website have changed their Cookie settings in response to these rules.
 
I would be grateful if you could please provide me, to the extent that you have the data available and as far as you are able, with answers to the five questions below.
 
1. How many visitors visited your website last year (2017) and how many have visited this year (2018)?
 
2. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to turn Cookies on?
 
3. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to turn Cookies off?
 
4. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to block only 1st party Cookies?
 
5. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to block only 3rd party Cookies?

Thank you for your request for information dated 4th April 2018 concerning British Council website visits and cookie configuration. Your request has been handled under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 and has been passed to me for reply.
 
For your ease of reference, I have restated your request below in bold and have provided our response beneath each point.
 
1. How many visitors visited your website last year (2017) and how many have visited this year (2018)?
 
2017 – 137,151,629
2018 – 56,261,611
 
2. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to turn Cookies on?
 
2017 – 81.41%
2018 – 79.51%
 
3. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to turn Cookies off?
 
2017 – 18.59%
2018 – 20.49%
 
4. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to block only 1st party Cookies?
 
We do not have reports that are set-up to monitor this. 
 
5. How many of those visitors configured their browsers to block only 3rd party Cookies?
 
2017 – 19.02%
2018 – 21.32%
