Dear Freedom of Information Officer,

Can I please make a request under the Freedom of Information Act and I would like to request the following information with regards to the organisation’s Local Area Network (LAN) environment.

Please can you send me the organisation’s Local Area Network (LAN) contract, which may include the following:

•         Support and Maintenance- e.g. switches, router, software etc

•         Managed

•         Installation

•         Cabling

1.       Existing Supplier: Who is the current supplier?

2.       Annual Average Spend for Supplier: What is the annual average spending on the supplier above? If there is more than one supplier please split the annual averages spend for each supplier.

3.       Number of Users: Please can you provide me with the number of users this contract covers. Approximate number of users will also be acceptable.

4.       Number of Sites: The number of sites where equipment is supported by these contract.

5.       Contract Type: Managed, Maintenance, Installation, Software

6.       Hardware Brand: What is the hardware brand of the LAN equipment?

7.       Contract Description: Please provide me with a brief description of the overall contract.

8.       Contract Duration: What is the duration of the contract is and can you please also include any extensions this may include.

9.       Contract Expiry Date: When does the contract expire?

10.   Contract Review Date: When will the organisation is planning to review the contract?

11.   Responsible Officer: Who within the organisation is responsible for each of these contract(s) please provide me with contact details including name, job title, contact number and email address? 

If the LAN maintenance is included in-house please include the following information:

1.    Hardware Brand: What is the hardware brand of the LAN equipment?

2.    Number of Users: Please can you provide me with the number of users this contract covers. Approximate number of users will also be acceptable.

3.    Number of Sites: Estimated/Actual number of sites the LAN covers.

4.    Responsible Officer: Who within the organisation is responsible for LAN please provide me with contact details including name, job title, contact number and email address?

If the contract is managed by a 3rd party e.g. Commissioning Support Unite can you please provide me with 

1.       Existing Supplier: Who is the current supplier?

2.       Number of Users: Please can you provide me with the number of users this contract covers. Approximate number of users will also be acceptable.

3.       Number of Sites: Estimated/Actual number of sites the LAN covers.

Thank you for your request for information dated 28 October 2016 concerning the British Council’s Local Area Network (LAN) contract in the UK. Your request has been handled under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 and has been passed to me for reply.

I can confirm, under section 1 (1) (a) of the FOIA, that the British Council does hold the information you have requested.

For your ease of reference, I have restated your request below in bold and have provided our response beneath each question.

The British Council’s call off from the ECHO Framework focuses on connectivity services.

8.Contract Duration: What is the duration of the contract is and can you please also include any extensions this may include.

Duration is 5 years with 2 x 1 year extensions

9.Contract Expiry Date: When does the contract expire?

2018

10.Contract Review Date: When will the organisation is planning to review the contract?

Reviewed on a six monthly basis – next review is January 2017

11.Responsible Officer: Who within the organisation is responsible for each of these contract(s) please provide me with contact details including name, job title, contact number and email address? 

Please note that we are withholding this information since the exemption under section 40(2) (Personal information) of the Freedom of Information Act applies.

The exemption under section 40(2) (Personal information) allows a public authority to withhold information relating to third parties if one of the conditions set out in section 40(3) is satisfied. Under the FOIA disclosure of this information would breach the fair processing principle contained in the Data Protection Act (DPA), where it would be unfair to that person or if it is confidential.

We are withholding the contact details of the responsible officer as they are not in senior or forward-facing role therefore it would not be fair to disclose their personal data.

Section 40 is an absolute exemption therefore is not subject to the public interest test.
