Thank you for your request for information dated 30 June 2015 concerning the number of international trips by British Council staff/contractors by destination. Your request has been handled under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 and has been passed to me for reply.

I can confirm, under section 1 (1) (a) of the FOIA, that the British Council does hold the information you have requested. The information has been provided below.

India = 33 trips 85 flights
Pakistan = 7 trips 28 flights
Nepal = 5 trips 18 flights
China = 14 trips 30 flights
Vietnam = 0 trips 0 flights
Cambodia = 0 trips 0 flights
Laos = 0 trips 0 flights
Russia = 3 trips 5 flights
Angola = 0 trips 0 flights
Democratic Republic of Congo 0 trips 0 flights
Nigeria = 17 trips 34 flights
Ghana = 2 trips 8 flights
Ivory Coast (Cote De Ivoire) = 0 trips 0 flights
Sierra Leone = 0 trips 0 flights
Saudi Arabia = 0 trips 0 flights

One trip could potentially include four flights for a return journey where there are no direct flights. An example would be:

• LONDON – DOHA (1 flight)
• DOHA – KATHMANDU (1 flight)
• KATHMANDU – DOHA (1 flight)
• DOHA – LONDON (1 flight)
