Thank you for your request for information dated 10 March 2015 concerning psychometric tests relating to British Council UK operations. Your request has been handled under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 and has been passed to me for reply.

I can confirm, under section 1 (1) (a) of the FOIA, that the British Council does hold some, but not all, of the information you have requested.

For your ease of reference, I have restated your questions below in bold and have provided our response beneath each question.

1. How much is spent on psychometric tests per year?

Prior to the 2014/15 financial year, psychometric tests were not employed by the British Council.

During 2014/15: £59,187.50 was spent

2. Which companies are contracted to do the tests?

T-Three

3. What protocols are in place in relation to the tests?

Tests are designed around our behaviours and used for development only. Reports are only shared with the individual and the person providing the feedback session, but individuals are encouraged to share results with their line manager. Feedback is delivered to individuals by external consultant in most cases.

4. Which levels of staff seniority are given psychometric tests each year?

Psychometric tests are employed at all levels of seniority from graduates, through to middle managers and right up to senior managers. In addition, 360 feedback is available to all staff.

5. How are the results of the test conveyed? Pass, fail, 10/10 etc.?

A report is generated and then shared with the individual for development purposes. There is no scoring.

6. What are the results for 2014? - stripped of any personal data

As explained is response to question five there are no scores therefore we do not hold any information in response to this question.

I hope the information provided has been useful.
