Please provide a response to the following Freedom of Information requests. Please consider these questions as three separate requests.

• How many people are employed by the British Council to work in Greater London on zero-hours contracts. Please break this figure down by (a) occupation and (b) pay grade.

• How many workers are employed by the British Council to work in Greater London on an employment contract where the employer is not obliged to provide the worker with any minimum working hours, and the worker is not obliged to accept any of the hours offered? Please break this figure down by (a) occupation and (b) pay grade.

• How many people does the British Council employ in Greater London?

Thank you for your request for information dated 12 January 2015 concerning employment information for British Council staff who work in Greater London. Your request has been handled under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 and has been passed to me for reply.

I can confirm, under section 1 (1) (a) of the FOIA, that the British Council does hold the information you have requested.

For your ease of reference, I have restated your questions below in bold and have provided our response beneath each question.

As of 31 December 2014, there were 640 employees based in London.
