Deborah Bronnert started as the Foreign and Commonwealth’s Chief Operating Officer in September 2014. Before this, Deborah spent 3 years as Ambassador in Zimbabwe. She has also served in Moscow (2002-2005), been a member of a Commission Cabinet (1995-1999) and worked in the UK Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels (1991-1993). In London she has previously been a Director (Global & Economic Issues in a job share, then Prosperity), been the G8 Foreign Affairs Sous Sherpa, head, deputy head and desk officer in various departments and worked in the Department of the Environment. Her first degree is in Mathematics (from Bristol) and she has a Masters in Political Economy of Russia and Eastern Europe (SSEES/UCL). She speaks French and Russian.
Deborah was awarded the CMG in 2012.
Deborah was a Non-Executive Director of Merlin (Medical Emergency Relief Charity) (2010-13) and is now a Trustee of the British Council.
