British Council appoints former communications head of Samaritans and UNICEF UK as interim Director of Communications
The British Council has appointed Sophie Borromeo as interim Director of Communications.
She will lead the corporate communications teams comprising the media team, internal communications and engagement, events, and oversee the homepage and corporate social media channels.
Sophie’s previous positions include executive Director of Communications at the Samaritans and Head of Communications at UNICEF UK, with experience in several interim senior communications roles at large charities.
She takes up the position following the departure of Sao Bui-Van to work at the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The British Council’s Director of Strategy and Engagement Hilary Cross said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Sophie into our organisation and with her experience we’re sure she’s going to hit the ground running.
“She will take a lead in raising our profile and the understanding of our work in the UK and explain the vital role of cultural relations in an increasingly challenging world.”
