The UK has great opportunities to forge closer cultural and economic links with South America, but also faces growing competition from rising powers like China.

In its written submission to the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee’s on-going inquiry into ‘Global Britain and South America’, the British Council stresses the huge opportunities for the UK that are opening up on the continent.  The submission highlights the importance of cultural and educational relationships to the UK’s future relations with the continent and the desirability of increasing investment at a time when other major economies are investing heavily in soft power activities there.  As such, it seeks to ensure that UK policy towards South America is targeted most effectively in the region.
