Language assistants are native speakers of French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese and Irish. Their up-to-date knowledge of their local culture makes them ideally placed to work with students on developing their conversational skills and increasing their understanding of other cultures. They can revitalise the skills of language teachers too.

You can find out more about how a language assistant can benefit your school, see videos of language assistants at work and hear what teachers think below.

The deadline for online applications has now passed. However, if you would still like to request a language assistant for the 2017/18 academic year, please contact the Language Assistants team at languageassistants.uk@britishcouncil.org as soon as possible and we will do our best to meet your requirements.

Article 50 update

The British Council remains wholly committed to the Language Assistants programme and its benefits. The British Council continues to deliver the Language Assistants programmes as planned. For the academic year 2017-18 UK education departments have agreed to fund the programme, as such incoming and outgoing applicants can apply with confidence.
