Hosting a language assistant in your school is an ideal way to bring language learning to life for your students.
Language assistants are often young and bring fresh ideas and energy to a classroom, making it easy for students to relate to them and boost their confidence. Having just arrived from a native-speaking context, language assistants will be up-to-date on their local culture and news, meaning they are best placed to work with students on developing their conversational skills and increasing their awareness and understanding of another culture.
Language assistants are native speakers of French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese and Irish. The majority of our assistants are language students, but the programme also attracts applicants from other disciplines and age ranges.
In the sections below, you can watch the films about Scottish, primary and secondary schools to hear what pupils, teachers, local governments and language assistants have to say about the programme.
Although the deadline for direct online applications has now passed, we are still able to accept applications for the 2016-17 academic year. If you would still like to request an assistant for 2016/17, please contact the Language Assistants team at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will endeavour to meet your requirements.
