Application process


Most posts are advertised on the British Council jobs portal in early spring and throughout the summer for posts starting in September and early October.  However vacancies arise throughout the year so it is worth setting up a vacancy alert to receive an email when we post a job that matches your search criteria.

The downloadable vacancy documents on the portal contain up to date and fully comprehensive information about the role and the location you will be working in. Please note that information on the website concerning posts, terms & conditions of service and teaching centres is as accurate as possible, but may be subject to change at short notice.

To make sure our recruitment process is fair and transparent we ask all candidates to complete an online application form for a specific role. CVs or resumés are only accepted as expressions of interest and may be submitted via our jobs portal. If your skills and experience match those of a role we are recruiting for, we may invite you to apply for this role.

Shortlisting for interview

As soon as possible after the closing date for applications, a shortlist is drawn up. We aim to contact all candidates within four weeks of the closing date. Due to the number of applications received we are unfortunately unable to provide feedback on applications at the shortlisting stage.

In cases where we receive a lot of candidates who meet the essential criteria, shortlisting can take place based on the desirable criteria as listed in the role profile that you download from our jobs website.

Interview format

The majority of our interviews are conducted via telephone or Skype with the recruiting manager for the post you are applying for. If you are already in the location you are applying for, we prefer to interview you face to face.  In either case, there will be time for you to ask questions about the role at the end of the interview.
