No future for cities in a digital age?

Technology and the rapidly growing availability of educational materials in digital form is leading to a point where students no longer need to ‘attend’ university in the traditional sense. While new technologies can develop and enrich students’ experience of higher education, are there irreplaceable benefits and opportunities which universities and students risk forfeiting in abandoning the significance of geographical location?
