Cities are facing new challenges and being given greater responsibility, and universities are under increasing pressure to deliver activities beyond research and teaching, both locally and internationally. This session discusses the role of universities in internationalising their cities through case studies from the UK and Russia, and presents the findings of research conducted in four European cities – Amsterdam, Dublin, Glasgow, and Hannover. The research, which looks at the internationalisation strategies of cities and universities, and how they intersect, will provide insight into how the two can work effectively together in the face of growing international competition.
