Many HEIs nowadays feel compelled to offer English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) because it is perceived as a powerful driver for internationalisation. However, the link between an HEI’s EMI strategy and implementation is not always clear. 

In order to succeed in this space, HEIs need to consider all potential areas of impact on stakeholders – faculty, staff, students, and employers.

This session will offer participants the opportunity to debate some of the key issues raised by the exponential growth in the use of EMI at university level with four experts from round the world and will begin with a brief, two-minute ‘provocation’ from each expert.
